MYRADA is a Non Governmental Organisation managing rural development programmes in 3 States of South India and providing on-going support including deputations of staff to programmes in 6 other States. It also promotes the Self Help Affinity strategy in Cambodia, Myanmar and Bangladesh

 

History of the Organization: MYRADA was started in 1968. The History can be divided in to two periods.

nFrom 1968 to 1978: Resettlement of 15000 Tibetan Refugees.

nFrom 1978 Onwards: Rural Development Programmes. 

 

Missions, Long term Aims

n    To foster a process of ongoing change in favour of the rural poor in a way in which this process can be sustained by them through building and managing appropriate and innovative local level institutions rooted in values of justice, equity and mutual support.  

n     To recreate a self-sustaining habitat based on a balanced perspective of the relationship between natural resources and the legitimate needs of people.

n     To promote strategies through which the full potential of women & children are realized.

n     To influence public polices in favour of the poor.

n     To strengthen networks & linkages between and among formal and informal institutions that can foster and sustain the impact of development initiatives.

Breakthroughs Achieved by MYRADA

n    Alternate credit systems managed by the rural/Urban poor through socially functional groups (Self-help Affinity Groups)

n    Empowerment of Women & Child focused development

n    Participatory integrated development of Watershed & Forestry.

    

 

Introduction to KUDCEM Project:

Uttar Kannada, is one of the Coastal Districts of Karnataka state, is known for its Natural beauty with huge thick forest Valleys, Rivers & Silver line beaches. The District stretches itself along the Arabian Sea in the western side with a total Coastal length of 144 Kms. There are three Main regions (a) Coastal (b) Malnad (c) Transitional belt. Our area of operation mainly comes under the coastal towns of Karwar, Ankola & Bhatkal. Other town comes under Malnad region – Dandeli

nThe project is involved in planning for Urban Infrastructure development in west coast Municipal towns & organizing sustainable institutions for its managements. The project covers four towns Karwar, Ankola, Bhatkal & Dandeli in these 4 towns we have total population 1,68,685. In these four towns there are 99 wards having 9,975 families coming under below poverty line.

 

The key components focused are:

n Informal settlers to be resettled through organizing relevant CBOs

n Preventive Health care through Awareness Camps & Education.

n To Provide proper Drinking water system & its Management, to provide safe & Clean Drinking water to all.

n To Provide drainage system for clean & safe disposal of water & its management.

 

n Management of Solid Waste in Municipal Limits.

n Awareness Trainings & Construction of Low Cost Sanitation.

n Necessity & Importance of Education

      Importance of Education for School Children

      Training for Prerakas & Upaprerakas of CECs.

      Motivating illiterates to join CECs.

n Awareness on Government Sponsored Programmes.

n Skill Trainings

       Entrepreneurship Development Programmes & Issue Based

      Issue Based (Driving, Computer Training, Embroidery, Tailoring)
